As a multidisciplinary consulting engineering firm founded more than five decades ago, Pennoni approaches engineering challenges from a wider spectrum of angles than most, from land development to energy management. Pennoni measures achievement in innovation, efficiency, and excellence. Our milestones are bigger than any one project; and every project affects the community, no matter how large or small. Our goal is to help communities and private sector clients alike navigate the ever-changing technological advancements available and learn how best to integrate “smart” solutions into the current landscape and make them a part of resilient and sustainable planning. Our combination of talent and experience generates unprecedented solutions for diverse and iconic projects around the globe, including nearly 300 projects internationally. Among these projects are:
GB Consult Vehicle Safety Training Facilities, Various Locations – Worldwide
GB Consult provides the complete planning of road safety training centers across the globe. These high-end training centers are designed to mimic hazardous road conditions and train drivers to maneuver safely through the sometimes dangerous and unpredictable road conditions. Pennoni provided engineering documentation support for a project in Baku, Azerbaijan. Pennoni provided similar CADD design support for a road-testing track in KEAC, Saudi Arabia, Losail Circuit Sports Club facility in Losail, Qatar, Motorsport City at Qiddiya in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and BRNO, Czechoslovakia.
Evaluation of the Bridges in the City of Makkah, Makkah, Saudi Arabia
Pennoni personnel evaluated three of the City of Makkah’s main bridges, including the King Khaled Bridge, the King Abdulaziz Bridge and the Al-Nassim Bridge. To evaluate these bridges, Pennoni reviewed all of the existing and previous documents, inspection reports and photos. A Bridge Information Model was compiled to allow users to observe the spatial location of deterioration, photographs, and comments made by inspectors. Based upon this review, and due to identified deficiencies and the criticality of these bridges, controlled truck load testing was recommended and custom instrumentation plans, loading scenarios, and guidelines for the test were provided. To mitigate the identified performance issues and deficiencies in each of the bridges, a set of recommendations for rehabilitation/retrofit to ensure the satisfactory performance of the bridges was submitted.
Landscape Architectural Design, Canal Point Hospital, Dubai, UAE
As consultant to Burt Hill, Pennoni provided landscape architectural design support for a private hospital in Dubai. Pennoni assisted with the design development, construction detailing and quality control review of this project’s ground floor and various private and public roof gardens/terraces designed for patient recovery. The Ground Floor hospital entry includes a granite paved drop-off featuring a beach-pebble lined water feature with custom glass reed luminaries and bronze candle sculptures; a custom teak shade pavilion and black granite paving leads visitors into the hospital. The Terraces, at various floors of the hospital, have many different areas for patient recovery and relaxation, from intimate, contemplative, areas with cushioned furniture to wide-open spaces with verdant lawns, bamboo groves, splashing water features, bamboo shade cabanas and ornamental iron therapy pavilions.
Project Management, The City of Al Dammam, Saudi Arabia
The Eastern Providence of Saudi Arabia is the largest by physical geography. The capital city is Al Dammam, which is the host to most of the region’s population. This region is the third most populous province of Saudi Arabia after Makkah and Riyadh, the nation’s capital. Pennoni was commissioned to the provide the project management services including: assist in applying common best practices for the project management activities; assess the operational and functional baseline of an organization and its organizational components, and help to define the direction and strategy for an engagement while ensuring the organizational needs are being addressed; manage the transformation and implementation activities; monitor and confirm that all project tasks meet identified requirements by application of, or in accordance with, accepted project management standards in the industry.
Uranium ISL Mine Engineering and Process Audit. West Mynkuduk Deposit, Kazakhstan
Pennoni completed an Engineering and Process Audit of an operating uranium in-situ leach (ISL) mine facility at the West Mynkuduk Deposit, Kazakhstan to identify potential limitations to operational production of the 1,000 tonnes/year-rated plant. For seven consecutive days onsite, the audit team completed the following scope of work: review of existing operational protocols; evaluation of existing plant’s mechanical equipment; review of process chemistry for capture of uranium; laboratory evaluation of process chemistry, engineering evaluation of filtration and drying circuits; tank and pipe wall thickness evaluation to determine consistency and integrity of materials of construction; recommendations to process, mechanical equipment and operational improvements; meetings with Mine management, Operations managers, Laboratory personnel, and Plant officials.
The ISL facility included an extraction/injection well field, central recovery processing plant, ion exchange loading columns, ion exchange elution columns, resin wash/management tanks, chemical precipitation and conditioning, plate and frame filter press and rotary kiln dryer circuits. Pennoni prepared a detailed audit report to document our observations, findings and engineering recommendations to improve capital equipment and operations at the plant.
